Students will use simple hand-building techniques to create their own unique angel figure. The teacher will provide a template that students can change and customize to make their design more personal. Each student will receive enough white clay to make one large angel. The instructor will have a variety of decorations and tools to create patterns on the clay, but students are also encouraged to bring any meaningful items they might want to include, like buttons, lace, or special stamps—anything they like! This project can be finished within the 3-hour class. After the angels are fired once to harden, there will be several opportunities for beginner glaze sessions so students can add color to their angels.
Intermediate Clay Series Practice moving clay efficiently from the base up into a stable cylinder. Focus on moisture control, wheel speed, and hand placement to pull taller, thinner walls without the rim wobbling. Get your pencils ready, Jenny Reeves Johnson is hosting an exciting fall and winter workshop exploring all-things drawing. This class should inspire students ages 16 and up who enjoy drawing and composition to move into bigger independent projects and build their skills and confidence in drawing. Through demonstration, discussion, and weekly projects, students will learn the fundamentals of drawing and engage in challenges involving composition.
